Tranny slippin?

Okay, everyday when I leave work i have to pull out on a very busy road and when I pull out I have to stomp on it pretty good to not get run over so the tranny revs up pretty good but when I get to the top end of 1st gear I get a few sputters and a small backfire and then it shifts into second and its fine, it also does this when I am on the hwy and I have to pass someone and I need to get on it pretty good, it downshifts, sputters for a sec, backfire and then i am on my way...any ideas?

87K on plugs, not sure on fuel filter probably over due...I had thought about plugs but I thought the plugs would act up more under low RPMs not high same with fuel filter....I guess I coudl replace the filter, although plugs on an 06 model seems like a real nightmare...

Restricted fuel flow - like from a clogged filter - will definitely show up at high rpm's under load, it's not getting enough fuel for the amount of air it's sucking. Try that first, and start thinking about plugs, you are due.

I thought I was the only one, once in a great while mine will do that too, I have 52,000 miles, so I should change the filter right.

You should change the fuel filter at LEAST every 30k.

Just an update, I changed the fule filter, still missing and sputtering, cleaned the MAF sensor, helped a little, ran a couple bottle of fuel system cleaner no change, pulled the TB off and cleaned no more missing or sputtering at high RPMS....Finally a $4 can of cleaner fixed the problem....
