97' f150 w/5.4, it has the e40d tranny with electronic shift///any ideas on why its not working, thanx!

 

The first thing to check is the fuse box. The most likely candidate though is the ESOF motor on the back of the transfer case. They're notorious for going bad due to infrequent use. See if you've got power going to that bad boy first. The good news is that they're easy to replace.
