Transmission PROBLEMS 2004-2009 models

Apparently these models are developing Transmission issues,
can you tell us if you have had a transmission problem, at what mileage, and if you had a tuner and/or big wheels?

2005 Screw Lariat 4X4 Transmission went at 58K miles no tuner Dealer replaced with Motorcraft Transmission. 1K miles later back in shop for new torque converter and lots o leaks, 13k (13 months) later getting ready to take it in again. Seems like torque converter?

Regards!

Me, I've got 98,000 miles and have NO transmission issues....
did have the rear-end go out last month, but other than that, NEVER had a problem with this truck.

NO MODS, NO LIFTS, NO BIG TIRES, NO TUNER, pretty much STOCK.

Did you change the ATF every 30k? Flush?

The fluid has been changed 2 times......not flushed, it's "jumped" around a few times, usually during acceleration from a standing stop, but really NO PROBLEMS.

Had to install new rear end in my old 2004 f-150 fx4 5.4 with 3.73 at 43000miles.
Now I have a 2009 supercrew with 5.4L 3.55 and a 6.5' box with a significant vibration in the rear when starting from a stop while towing a load in 1st and 2nd gear.....

2005 Screw with 3.73 gears, been running 285/70-17 tires, Troyer Xcal2, and 2.5" leveling kit since I brought it home...33,000 miles and no issues at all. Truck doesn't get driven much obviously, but most of those miles are while loaded up for camping and off roading.

'05 S-Cab Lariat with 70,000mi, 5.4, 3.73LS, Hypertech and running 305/35/24 wheels and I have never changed out the tranny fluid on this truck. I've been the only owner and till this day I've had no issues with it. I've been thinking about doing a full tranny service on it but why mess with it...right?

Can we clean this up so it might actually be helpful? I think the intent was to post IF you had a problem.

I realize this thread's a few months old but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth. I have an '04 FX4 4X4 regular cab and my tranny went at 85000 some miles. Completely lost reverse and in drive it sounded like a rock polisher. I replaced it with a reman from a very reputable rebuilder, Certified Transmissions out of Omaha. They told me that they do not see very many of these transmissions (4R75E) and they are pretty reliable. They also said that when they do go bad the rear planetary usually 'explodes' (their term). I do not pull anything with mine, but I bought it used and I think some farmer pulled the crap out of it before trading it in, the tranny never did feel just right.

My 07 is a 5.4L supercrew 4x4. It has 110k on it. I have had it since 14k miles and every day it has 1000 lbs of gear it its bed. 90% of the mileage is highway. It has towed 5000lbs or less twice. At 90k the truck started shuttering when cold at 25-50 mph at light throttle. now it is doing it when warm at light throttle at 45? mph....seems like top gear 1200 rpm... Truck is a work lease and will be gone in a week...

Other issues... Rear brakes at 14,000 (dealer), 32,000 (dealer), 48,000 (me), 65,000 (dealer / TSB for parking brake completed), 90,000 (me).... (this vehicle has the worst brakes of any vehicle I have ever had).
Left front hub and 4x4 vacuum controller at 105,000
