2009 Transmission Question possible problem?

Hi guys,

I wanted to know if this is normal. Sometimes when I go from Park to Drive I will drop down to 3 on accident and start to drive a few feet. I notice that the truck seems to shimmy/shake as if you were driving a stick shift from a stop in 5th gear lol.

Is this normal because the tranny is in 3rd? How come in other guys I have driven they just drive normal in 3rd and then rev only up to 3rd gear?

Thanks!

If you have it in 3rd, it will try to start in 3rd. That is way too high a gear to really start in, so I would not be surprised if you get funny feelings from the start up. Do you get the same feeling when shifting from 2nd to 3rd when it is shifting through the gears?
Also there is a TSB on shifts from 2nd to 3rd, but depending upon when yours was built, you may already have it.

The purpose for a 3rd gear start would be for slippery conditions. Ford has had a 2nd gear start for many years on the 3 and 4 speeds.

The other guys probably don't have Ford 6 speeds, and "3" starts it in 1st and simply locks it out of overdrive. That's how GM works, they use PRND321 instead of PRND21 and an OD button.

My truck is a 2009. Do you know the date range for this TSB so I can make sure I have it already?

Thanks!

The TSB came out in May, so if yours was built before then, it probably needs it. The only one to tell for sure is the dealer. Do a search in the 2009 forum, the TSB is listed there.

I will try and find when mine was built. I think it would say a date on the door pannel? My old Toyota had the labels there.
