my truck is a 98 f150 4x4 4r70w


can i swap in a 00 or 01 MOUNTAINEER 4r70w 4x4 tranny into my truck ?

can i use that t-case too or no ?


i take it i have to change some wireing around ?

your correct, there should be a pin difference in the wiring harness. easy fix if your patient, Darrin Burch on here would have the pinout you need, i think even alan/dirtydog would too.

Let's specifically answer what you asked and not just post up a link to someone else's hard work to try and appear smart. The answer is no. You cannot swap an 00-01 Mountaineer transmission into your 98 truck because the bellhousing pattern is different.

There is no point in talking about the wiring part when the transmission won't fit anyway. LOL

You need a transmission from something that has the same engine in it that your truck has.

Specifically since I think you have a 5.4l now and you have a 98 already so there is no need to mess with wiring changes at all to use a newer transmission, you would be best to find a transmission out of a 98-04 5.4l 4X4 F150 that was equipped with a 4R70W. If from an 04 it needs to be from a Heritage.

Just curious, without the OP telling us which engine he has, how could you determine it wouldn't work? Could he not have the same motor in his '98 as is in the Mountaineer? (Not asking to be a smartass, just asking because I don't know.)

The engine will not be the same. The 2000/2001 Mountaineer only came with a 4.0 V6 and a 5.0 V8.

 

ohhh they ran the 5.0 then? i thought they phased it out completely.
is it the same 5.0 pattern from the older days or has it changed?

If you do a bit of research on who posted the 'technical' reply (NOT Klitch) then you might begin to understand why I worded things the way I did.

But how I knew what engine the OP had is because I used the search function and researched what engine he had before I answered. I figured that he actually wanted good solid advice that was relative to his situation, so I read his whole question then looked up what he had in his truck since he didn't include it and gave him an accurate answer to what he specifically asked.

I am kind of a stickler like that, sorry. I hate it when I have a question for which I obviously need the correct answer and instead get something that doesn't even relate to what I asked.

Again, knowing who the reply came from will shed light on how I phrased things on my end. This happens all the time with him. Either he just doesn't know the true answers, doesn't at all read what is being asked or just posts up something to make people think he is helping someone, I don't know. I will never understand that guy.

But, I hope what I posted was actually of some real help to the OP.

The whole purpose of him being here is to make personal attacks at me in every thread I post in. In fact I don't post much here because of him, not like I used to. After a couple years of me teaching him the transmission business he has decided he is better than me and will try to convince the world his couple years of reading on the internet make his experience far superior to my 16 years in the transmission business.
