Reverse Lights
Reverse Lights
2004 F-150 4x4 5.4 XLT, 104K, the reverse lights don’t work when it is completely in reverse, now if you old the shifter between park and reverse they come on just fine, so I know the bulbs are good. The truck backs up no problems, just no lights, any suggestions? I don’t want to take it to a shop if it is something I can fix easily, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

There is a sensor on the drivers side of the transmisison that the linkage goes through. It is called the MLPS, also known as a neutral safety switch. It is responsible for turning on the reverse lights and it sounds like it may be out of adjustment.
What you do is block the wheels and set the parking brake. Then put the truck in neutral and go look at that sensor to make sure the neutral lines are lined up.

Back-up lights arent required to work so if it inst a bother or is expensive you technically dont have to do anything. i didnt have working ones on a truck i had for 2 yrs, just never bothered to try and figure out where it was messed up
