Question Cracked Extension Housing

I have a 03 F150 4x4 and the extension housing is craked, what could have caused it to crack? Before it cracked the truck drove great, there was no vibrations or anything wrong. But if you get to highway speeds 65+ it would vibrate a little, but I thought my tires where out of balance. But that wasn't the problem. Also the is nothing wrong with the u-joints or drive shafts. Please help if you know what could have cause the problem!

Sorry man, on this one you need to take it to someone that does these for a living in my opinion. FInd a reputable shop that understands the system and will stand behind their work. Doing this worng to try and save a few up front can cost you a LOT more before you are done.

Let them tell you why it happened and what it takes to fix it and make sure it doesn't happen again.

The reason I say this is that those are some beefy housings and it really took some work to break one. Something serious is wrong and needs to be found and fixed. Internet speculation isn't the way to go here.

I broke 3 bolts in transfer case to extension housing, broke/lost trans mount bolt in my 1998 F150. I don't know about yours but mechanic said those year models...all the weight of transfer case and ext house is held by those 6 bolts, I broke three of them off roading back in our January ice storm. I DID go places that I have never been and thought I could not go. Went over some very large trees and logs.

I broke some **** BUT did not get stuck or stranded. Leaking lots of ATF though. 2 days labor, 3 new bolts drilled out & tapped over sized, trans fluid, seals. The bill was $658.00...I had visions of $800.00
