Quick spike in RPMs

I have an occasional issue that when I am moving slowly in rush hour traffic (5-10mph at 1000RPMs), as soon as I go to apply a small amount of pressure on the gas pedal, the RPMs make a quick jump to 1500RPMs or so before the truck shifts into second gear. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause the sudden spike rather than making a smooth transition into second? The truck only has 3000 miles on it and hasn't been abused. Any info is appreciated.

What kind of truck? I'm assuming a Ford of some sort..........

Please fill in your truck's details in your profile.

My bad. Profile is updated. My truck is a 2008 F150 XLT SuperCrew. It usually shifts real smooth but for some reason under these conditions, it jerks a little when going into second gear.

Check with your dealer - there may be a TSB on it, and a PCM reflash may take care of it.

Thanks GLC. I'll be sure to bring this up when I talk with the dealer.

Good post.

I think what he is feeling is the stall speed of the converter and then the clunk into gear. That might be something they have addressed in a TSB.
