01 F150 Tranny service question

I have a 01 F150 company vehicle with 170,000 miles and have a question. I currently have no transmission trouble but I can't find anyone to service the tranny. We usually sell or trade our vehicles @ 100,000 to 120,000 but with the current economy we are stretching it out until ?

I think the last trans service was around 90,000 to 110,000 and when I tell prospective service centers this they say they will not touch it. Why will they not service when it runs fine, I just want to keep it that way

If it had never been serviced, I can see why they wouldn't, but if it's only been 70,000 since a tranny service, that doesn't make sense.

Can you give me a little more? Will they do a better job, will they warranty the trans. if they service it and something happens?

I had someone tell me that some of these transmissions will not even move the truck after they have been serviced, is this what these guys are scared of?

how does the fluid look on the dipstick?

if its still got a decent red color to it then you could be able to service it. If its very grey or black and has some sludge on it, just wait for it to die and start saving your money now.

I just checked the fluid and the level looked good and the fluid had a nice red color with no burnt smell. I must say this is surprising, most of my miles are on the interstate but I do tow a good bit and the size varies from a small trailer to a 27 ft. Grady White that weighs in @ 10,5000 fully loaded. I installed the Edge programmer when it was almost new and have used it in the tow mode all the time. Maybe that is why I have had good service so far.

I might try the dealer and see if they have any problem with doing the service.

You can always dump it yourself. There is a drain plug on the torque converter so you can drain all of the fluid. It's a little messy, but not that much trouble. The transmission pan has a reusable gasket that works well so don't change it with the one that comes with a filter.
