Tansmission swap question?
Tansmission swap question?
I currently have an automatic transmission that is toast the number is
RF-F7SP-7006-AA
I found another one that i want to know if it can replace it with. the newer one's numbers are
RF-F7AP-7006-AA
so far the only difference i know of is the starter mount. but will i have any problems swapping these out ie. my computer wont have any problems with it etc?
thanks
The newer transmission is 31" from the bell to tail and it is unknown what model year truck it came from

Those are both casting numbers for the case. That last one was a current case from 97-03 or 04 and only lets us know that it was from a vehicle that had a 4R70W in it and from those years.
To know what the transmission itself is you will need to get the numbers off the rectangular metal tag that it attached to the side of the transmission with a circular clip.

OK so that tranny wont work... but I am having trouble finding one that i can afford. I am starting to think it may be cheaper for me to rebuild the one I have and just replace the parts that need replacing and then some. but heres the catch I dont know the first thing about automatic transmissions. I have a buddy who has offered to help and we can work in his shop. but we would need someone to walk us through the rebuild. how much is a rebuild kit going to cost me. I am having to compare two things 1. the trouble of finding the right transmission, vs. 2. the trouble of finding someone to wahelp rebuild it And the trouble of actually rebuilding it.
any thoughts???
