tranny toast at 72k

started having problems with the tranny yesterday.

stuttered, shuddered, grunted, and bucked 60 blocks to the tranny shop today. mechanic drove it around the parking lot and said it is probably the planetary gears are destroyed. fluid was definately burnt. ****. i was hoping it just be the clutches or a burst seal. they'll find out for sure when they drop the pan.

ive only had the truck for 5k miles so for all i know it was still the original fluid in it. i was planning on changing the fluid at 75k but i guess its too late. unless they get a cancellation they wont be able to get to it for a week

they're going to call back with a quote, but what kind of price tag am i looking at for this?

Sucks to hear. Hopefully everything will turn out alright. I'm in the same spot as you though, 72,5k miles, bought it at 61k, unsure if any previous owner has done a tranny flush or rear flush on it. Around 75k - 80k miles I may look into having it done.

got the call back, $1500+tax. sounds reasonable if its the gears themselves that are trashed rather then burnt clutches or something like that.

ive been working part-time for about a year and a half (im in school) and i have about $700 in my checking account and about $2500 in savings, and $10 in cash.
