There is a Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) on the driver's side of the trans where the shifter cable attaches. Either the sensor is bad or one of the wires to the sensor is bad.

i talked to a guy who works at a diff. trans shop he said it could be out of ajustment *PRNDL swtich*. Should i try to reajust this my self or take it to the trans shop n let them do it bc there is a 1 yr warrenty on the trans? when we took the tranny out we took the link and wires off the senor we did not pull the senor off so the trans shop either 1. messed somthin up or 2. didnt replace it or 3. replaced it and didnt ajust right? the guy at the trans shop said hed have to have my truck for a day to take a look at it... just wanna know if you think this is somthing coverd in a warenty or not.

Thanks again for answering....and jugding from you sig you know ur chit about Ford tran's. you've been working on Ford tran's longer than ive been alive...well almost i was born july 5th 88 Thanks again!

You were a month old when I started at Ford.

I don't know what their warranty covers. If they are willing to look at it, let them. It probably is not the adjustment. I've never seen one that set a code because it was out of adjustment.

Hmmm, I would have joined the federal witness protection program rather than admit to that....

Want a busted forward clutch drum? I've still got mine in my desk drawer.

No, thanks, I've seen plenty.

I didn't design ANY of the parts in that trans. I worked on the calibration, scheduling when the shifts happen and what pressure is used for every shift. That was no picnic, either. The hardware design is so strange that there were several shifts that were impossible to make right. We finally had to go with it's as good as it's going to get.

hehe, that's funny. not trying to pick on you mark, but what happened with the early e4od's, especially with the diesels. man those things had issues.

Oh mark one more question for ya....How in the world do CVT tran's work?

My moms 05 Ford 500 has one and i always end up doing 80 in a 40 bc the thing never shifts. Thanks again guys

I did not work on the early E4ODs, but from what I gathered the torque impulses from the diesel were not fully understood and tore up the trans pretty bad.

I've never seen the trans on the new Explorers.

It's WAY too complicated to explain how the CVT works. To get a basic idea look at www.howstuffworks.com and read up on how a snowmobile trans works. It's the same idea.

My wife had an '05 Five Hundred with a CVT. I can't understand how everyone said that car was underpowered. It was just fine. If I wanted to go faster I'd get a Mustang GT.

yeah my moms 500 is pretty quick 0-60 in about 6-7 seconds depending on how high of an RPM i lunch normal around 2300-2500

So is it ok to drive my truck with this code or will i hurt the trans? Also my trans never gets over 100* it got up to 140* but thats because it was sitting for 10-15 mins while running. i have amsoil tranny fluid and a newly rebuilt trans under 2,000 miles old
