4x4 conversion

Hey everyone....I decided to take on a project and convert my 1992 f-150 2 wheel drive over to a 4x4... I had a donor full size Bronco sitting in my back yard. I pulled allthe front end gear and tranny out of my 2 wheel drive and prepared to start putting the running gear from the Bronco in it when I discovered the wiring was different . I then changed the wiring harness over from the bronco and everything went smooth and hooked up ok...I was just wondering if the computer from the 2 wheel drive is going to work now..The computer in the Bronco is for a 300 six cylinder...and i am running a 5 litre in the project truck. Will I have to get a computer from a 4x4 with a 5 liter in it...or will the 2 wheel drive one work.

The 300 computer won't play well with the 302. What wiring wouldn't hook up for a 4x4 swap that required a total harness change?

i would pick up a computer out of a bronco that had a 302 and the same tranny your using. that would be your easiest way to convert.

Cool...thanks for the reply...The only difference in the wiring harness was the tranny in the bronco had extra wiring for overdrive and passing gear and for the indicator for the 4 wheel drive...I will get a computer out of a bronco to be on the safe side.

I'm using a E40d tranny ,,,and both rigs are92's. Are you putting th 5.0 in the f-150 too??..If so just switch front harness and computer over and it should work...The only problem I am starting to run into is a slight difference in steering columns...My f-150 has cruise and the bronco didn't and the bronco had overdrive on the shifter and the f-150 didn't. I hope that switching columns will fix that, and hope I don't have to start messing with the inside harness.

No I'm keeping the I-6. What did you do the make the cruise stop working?my bronco had cruise and I am putting it in the 150 now all I need is a new master cyl and it should work but I have bigger fish to fry, I changed steering columns
because mint was shot, I want cruise, and don't want the air bag I had to Remove the shifter, I swapped lock cyls and hard to make one connector but the cruse control unit plugged right into a connection that was allready their and even under the dash their was wires their

the cruse control dosn't have anything to do with the trans. at liest I don't think it dose. I have a e4od from my bronco I'm not using w/od and cruse I mite be interested in selling.

I know the cruise doesn't have anything to do with the tranny...but is all tied into the main harness and I am trying to make everything work without hacking the harness's to pieces.
As for your swap...you would probably b father ahead to swap everything...including engine to make things go smoother for you...If you go online you can access the chilton library for wiring diagrams to help you on that end...I just went to my local library and got a library card which allowed me to sign into the chilton library.

Tried it on the original computer and not shifting right....starts off in high gear and has no passing gear...going to swap computers and try from there.....everything is working good besides the shifting
