Transmission issue-Overdrive

I have a 2000 Lariat with a 5.4 and auto transmission. About 20,000 miles a go I replaced the transmission with a new transmission. Here recently, I have noticed in the morning that this transmission does not shift into overdrive for several minutes at the speed required to do so. It is cold outside, but my truck is garaged (heated).

It appears to shift into overdrive just fine after the initial warm up/shift.

It seems to shift okay through the other gears (bands) okay when it is cold and warm.

Is this a problem? Is it normal? Is it something I should address with the garage that installed the new transmission?

Even though it in the garage, as soon as you run it outside and the transmission fluid is exposed to the cold temps we have been having, it isn't going to warm up quick enough and the computer will keep it in cold shift mode.

I am out in Danville. If you want to bring it by I will check it over and make sure it's doing what it's supposed to be doing.

Cold shift mode

So that is an actual mode the transmission operates in. That would explain it then. Darrin I thank you for your input.

Yeah, there is a thing called 'cold shift' mode.

If you can get me your computer code I can look up to see what temperatures and timers are in play for that on your truck. There should be a white rectangular sticker on a door jamb that has a 4 digit code in big black lettering. The one on my truck is SVB2. Yours should be different but it will be in that format.

Totally normal, mine goes miles down the road at 50 mph and finally goes into o/d. Mine's been rebuilt a year ago and does it. I don't mind, the truck sounds great the whole time!! It does this when it's pretty cold, well, noticeable sub 40 degrees I guess. Summer it is normal.
