Probably an individual dealer thing.

Ford recommends Rotunda equipment.

The BG s/u at my local Ford dealer uses two additives, one before and one after the BG flush machine exchanges the fluid. The pre-flush additive is a cleaner that helps breakdown tarnish, etc. making the exchange remove more to clean the tranny better. I've been told by a friend ASE Ford mechanic that this BG cleaner is good. Being it's removed with the exchange, I don't worry about it. The BG machine I'm familiar with exchanges the fluid via the tranny cooler lines, probably the most common type of machine. It uses the tranny's pump to exchange the fluid and it doesn't backflush anything like so many say or think. The post-flush additive is the one my friend mechanic said to not use. It's the BG conditioner, also called the soft shift formula. It's goal is to keep the seals in the tranny soft and pliable. Problem is that over time the seals will get hard and when this chemical is added, it can cause the seals to leak. He told me he's seen this in some transmissions. I've had the BG flush and I'm due for another but I'll leave off the conditioner. Used the pre-flush cleaner and haven't had any problems. I'm at 61k. Will also drop pan and change filter after the flush in the back yard. They really should do this as part of the flush process. Anybody that says the pan doesn't need dropping or that the tranny uses a screen and not a filter is lying, IMO. Go to autozone and look at a replacement filter. Looks like a filter to me, not a screen. I believe BG is a good machine, however it pays to see who's doing the job there at the shop. Some jack-ss not knowing how to properly do it can make for an expensive visit.
