35's and a 4.6, I think that classifies as a must. I would say you'd greatly enjoy the use of 4.56's.

go with 4.56's espically if its a 4.6L, i think they can range anywhere from 900-1200$ installed.

of course it isn't a must. You never "need" to regear. Its a suggestion. You can get away with it, just fine.

What gears are you running now ?

I have 35x12.5 heavy *** E rated pro comp extreme mud terrains. I also have the small 4.6 l motor. I tow OFTEN. I off road often. I play in the mud and wheel. I have been running 3.73 gears and these tires for well over a year. No issues. Trans temps never get too high. Shifting is great. I will regear, but its far from a priority. Just some

If you don't regear, get some cooling mods. I have a mag hytech deep dish trans pan. I also have the mag hytech dif cover to keep fluid temps in check.

regearing is nice. It gets more "umph" to the wheels, and take offs become fun again ! It also reduces stress on the tranny and other drivetrain by mnaking it easier to get going, or climb a hill. Makes towing easier as well. hurts your highway MPG, but might increase your city MPG.

Its costly. being 2wd, your going to save some coin, but your looking at somewhere in the $600 ball park, if not more. Depends where you live, labor rates, etc etc. For that price, I have a hard time suggesting 4.10 gears. Its really not a large stepup. 4.56 is a little more, better, and will definately give you a noticable "umph". But if your a heavy commuter, on the highway mostly then the 4.10's might make more sense to you. If you drive normally, want extra "umph" then the 4.56 would be for you. I personally will most likely go with 4.88's and a detroit out back when I regear. more traction, and the 4.88's will really give me something extra. I don't use my truck as a daily driver, so MPG isn't much of a concern.

Hope this clears it up some. If not, feel free to ask more questions.

So what are you waiting for MT?

Regearing beats any bolt on mod!

Just wondering.

I don't do many mods on the truck. Mostly dump money into the Samurai and other tools and odds and ends. My truck works great. I'll regear someday, but its just low on the list. Plus, its a POS axle, with no 3rd member. I hate yankee axles. So much nicer pulling out a 3rd and working on that !

I am building a competition crawler. Another Zuk project. Shyt sucks my wallet dry ! always does. Starting to take shape though.

mudaddict9,

I have a formula for determining how to regear so that you are back close to stock.

(New Tire Size / OEM Size) X OEM Gears = New Gears

I started w/ 235/70/17 tires & 3.55. I went to 315/70/17 w/ a lift kit.

(34.4 / 30) X 3.55 = 4.0706666666666666666666666666667

I now have 4.10 gears.

I just ordered my ring and pinion today...I switched to 4.56 and it only cost me 300$ and he said the front was 330(Motive High Perf. gears) I run 36 and plan 38s soo I think it's gonna be ok! But by the way can someone tell me if its necessary to shim? I ordered it for 8.8 31 spline it should be direct fit!?!?
