Transmission whine

This may have been discussed before if so ill keep looking through the posts, I have a 04 XLT 4.6 Supercab 2wd 82000 miles. At idle you can shift into Reverse and hear the whine, shift into neutral it goes away, then drive it comes back and whines while driving, I went last week nd had the filter changed and fluid changed. Should i have it flushed, Should i take it and have it looked at? The mechanic who drained it said all fords whine and its popular with the AODE transmission and i should go to the dealership and get an additive that will quiet it . Any knowledge will be helpful, other options i ve been told are replace the torque convertor and if thats not it its probably the pump. Anybody else gone through this Thank you in advance for any help...I live in fl and this has been going on since before it was cold also.

Whine isn't normal. Unfortunately it's darn tough to daignose over the internet. But, I would have to say it's pump or valve body related.

Thank you for the reply, It still seems to be shifting fine with no hesitation, so Im still not sure what my options are except taking it to be looked at by another mechanic, If it needs to be replaced im fine with that but i dont want to go through 10 different repairs to fix the problem, Thank you again

Did everything still seem normal or did it progressively get worse.
