but was just checking. i know the speedo sensor is alittle different. but i think thats all. am i missing anything else? for the trans stuff.

Whatever you get the 4r100 out of,,you will need the computer that gos with it in order to operat the trans!

i knew you had to do that for the 4r70w. but you have to do it for the E40D too? i mean they are the same trans for the most part. just the 4R100 is alittle stronger.

we put a 4R100 in a 97 f150(should have had a e40d no?) and we just swaped the speedo senser and all was good. no ECU change needed on it.

or, you could just rebuild the e4od, and guarantee compatibility.

I would think that a properly built E4OD should be pretty near bullet proof and as previously stated, have no compatibility issues.

A computer that runs an E4OD will run a 4R100 just fine. I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but there are some solenoid body issues. The lockup solenoids are different, and the connector might be different, too. They are both minor issues that are easy to fix.

Just make sure you get a 4r100 with the right bolt pattern. A diesel trans won't bolt up.

im totally confused on why you would swap 1 4r100 for an E4od when they are basically by internal design the same transmission. just rebuilt the E4OD and save yourself all the headache and you will have one strong as hell transmission.

well the main reason. is i would be buying a engine and trans out of a 2001 newer expdition. a low mileage 4r100 should be cheaper then a built E40D.

and a 4r100 with the set-up i plan stock PI engine with 6-8psi should last me awhile.
