Overdrive question

ive always been meaning to ask this, but for just normal everyday driving (no towing) should my OD be on? is there any pros/cons of having OD on or off? ever since i got the truck its always been on, i shut it off once before and it just stays in a lower gear and higher rpms. so any advice on this would be cool. Thanks

Leave it on unless you are towing. That's what the computer is for - to decide when to shift.

The only con to having the overdrive off is that you will burn more fuel. There is no benifit to having it off. All that turning off overdrive does is keep the trans from shifting to fourth gear.

Are you not supposed to tow in OD? I have a popup camper (about 1700 lbs) that I tow all the time. The only time I turn OD off is when I'm coming down hill and need engine breaking. Sometimes I turn it off going up hill if it's steep and windy and I want to avoid too much shifting.

You only need to turn it off if when towing or even daily driving, when the transmission hunts for the right gear. If it is constantly locking and unlocking the torque convertor or shifting between OD and 3rd, turn it off. Otherwise leave it on.
