3 seconds to go to reverse 4R70W
I bought a 2004 4WD F150 Heritage with a 4.6 and a 4R70W about 3 months ago. It has 72000 miles on it.
Not having a pickup for about 25 years I kind of forgot a lot about them and there is a lot of new stuff.
The transmission shifts fine going into drive. Pull the lever and it is in gear. What worrys me a little is when I put it in reverse it takes 3 seconds before it goes in gear. This happens all the time, when its cold, when stopping and then going into reverse, and going there after haveing been in park.
I'm getting ready to retire in a couple of years and take it pretty easy on stuff but am concerned this thing might break after I quit my job and money gets a little tighter. If its a possible big problem I would look into the repairs now.
Thanks

Every Ford vehicle with an auto trans that I've owned or driven seem to have the delay when going into reverse... It's not been 3 seconds, as that is an awful long delay, but more like a second or two at the most.. These are of all kinds of eras or vehicles and trans for the most part too.
Maybe one of the Ford Techs that frequent this forum can elaborate?

It has to do with the valve body and orifice plate.
I have the Jmod done on my transmission, that speeds up shifts, but even in stock trim my transmission had a delay to it, i would say about 1.5 seconds. Now even with the modified orifice plate it still has a delay to it. That is just how it is.....
I say should be fine as long as you keep up with your fluid and filter changes on the trans.
