No overdrive

Hello everyone, I am a new member here and I need some trans help. The truck is an '02 F150 5.4 w/100k, I am the original owner. The problem is that one day while getting on the highway the the transmission shifted 1-2-3 like normal and then when it shifted to overdrive it went to nuetral. I quickly hit the od off button and it went to third without issue.

This happened over a year ago and other than no overdrive it runs/shifts great.

I dropped the pan and checked out the fluid, it looked and smelled fine, but I changed it anyway.

I have changed the shift solenoid which did not work.

I have engine braking in 2nd and 3rd gear, which would not be present if the od band was broken.

Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

Your o/d band is shot, mine did the exact same thing and that's what was the problem. I had my tranny overhauled and beefed up with better parts, cheaper than buying a whole new tranny. That is what it is, guaranteed. Nows the time to replace clutches, accumulator springs and pretty much everything a good rebuild kit includes. I even had the torque converter replaced.

That is strange, because I bought the real ford r&r manuals and in there it said if you have engine braking in 2nd and 3rd it is not the band. I read that early on and then didn't know where to turn next.

I guess I'll dig out the manual again and see what is involved in changing the band.

Thanks for the help
Jim
