4R100 COME WITH ALL 5.4s??

Pretty much my question, all transmissions on 5.4s are 4r100s and 4.6s the 4r70w? Visually looking at the transmission how can i identify the difference?

No 5.4 could be either way. 4.6's are all 4r70w. 4r70w's have a 14 bolt pan and 4r100's have 20 bolts.

Me,
If it the motor came out of an F-150 the trans will be a 4R70W
If it's out of a F-250,,it will be a 4R100. If you want to swap from 4r70w to 4r100 your in for a nightmare!
More money and lot more parts to swap.

i assume that you know if you will be swapping transmissions, you will also need to swap pcm's, wiring, torsion bars (4WD), may need exhaust work, driveshaft modifications, etc. it is not a direct bolt-on swap. also, the trans needs to be 2WD or 4WD setup, depending on your configuration.

just have the guy go outside and look at the door sticker. Have him tell you what code is under transmission.

i am just going to get the engine and transmission from the same truck, drive shaft is available as well as the PCM and harness, should i just get it all? But if its the same transmission than why would the drive shaft be any different, i have 4 wheel and my transfer case would stay where its at when i pull the transmission so the rear drive shaft stays, are you talking about the 4x drive shaft?

take everything, harnesses, pcm, etc. will make life a lot easier opposed to having to pour through wiring diagrams to compare, and make solderings. save yourself a lot of frustration, and spend the extra money.

if it has the 4R70W, don't worry about the driveshafts, but if it has the 4R100, take them. You will need them if you are to swap to the 4R100. Otherwise, driveshaft modifications will be required. also, if the truck is 4WD, and has the 4R100, grab the torsion bars as well. you will need them to clear the longer 4R100. since the 4R100 is longer, and it the transfer case bolts to the transmission, the transfer case will be sitting 5'' further back than it was before. you will need the longer torsion bars to relocate the torsion bar crossmember 5'' back, as it is currently sitting where the transfer case will be bolted onto the 4R100. just look at the number of pan bolts to figure out if it is the 4R70W, or the 4R100. if it has the 4R100, definitely take it. it is a stronger transmission than the 4R70W. if it is a 4R70W, don't worry about the driveshafts, or torsion bars. your current ones will work fine.

Lastly, is the donor truck a 4WD as well? if not, the 4R100 would have to be completely disassembled to swap out the output shaft for your 4WD truck, if that is what the donor truck has.

is there anything else we can answer for you?
