Torque converter shudder??
What would you start with in the EGR systems. I really don't know what that is yet. I thought that I surely needed to change my plugs/wires and coil first. And get the error code read at Autozone too. I did get a Chilton's so that I have some idea when I start this up again.

I have this same problem on my FX4 with 52K on it. I took it to the dealer and they suggested a tranny flush....the tech said the flush has fixed some converter shudders problems. On the way home, the problem was still there, but a LOT less severe. The tech said it would take around 200 miles to fully work, if it's going to.
I have an Edge and ran diagnostics, but came up empty.
Any comments?

How did you determine the COP's were bad?
I stopped at the dealer today after work and I think we finally figured out the shudder....I have a misfire on CYL 1. The tech suggested I change that plug and COP at the very least. He also suggested having the plugs changed at 60K instead of waiting until 100K. Seems that Ford has changed their suggested maintenance change of the plugs. I just know that plug is going to break when the go to change it...
Don't let Ford do it! And I need some advice!
I have a 5.4L as well, and I just recently finished replacing all 8 of my spark plugs. My truck is a 2006, and the plugs are 12.99/ea, and then I find out the absolute brilliance of the makers of these plugs. The are a 3-part plug, that can break very easily, and there is only 1 tool you can use to get the broken end of the plug out, and it's $100.
I had recently taken my truck to Ford, and had to pay the ridiculous diagnostic fee of $98, just to find out if my transmission was the reason for the shuttering I had noticed between 40-50 mph. They told me that I had two bad ignition coils (#3 and #5), needed new spark plugs, an induction flush (which is a scam by the way), and then told me that my serpentine belt was cracked. I am blessed to have a brilliant mechanical mind for a father-in-law, who I knew would shed light on the $1000 they wanted to charge me to complete this work.
I went to Autozone and bought the spark plugs, even after the guy told me that even some mechanics wouldn't change the plugs due to how fragile they are. My father-in-law was convinced we could do it, so I got them anyway. It took us 2 days, we broke 2 plugs (and had to buy that tool), but replaced the other 6 successfully. After going through that, I am certain that the majority of the cost is all in the labor, because it is definitely not easy. Especially when you get back to #7 and #8!
This did not solve the problem, so I bought and replaced the 2 bad ignition coils. We also replaced the "cracked" serpentine belt, which wasn't cracked at all!
The problem still exists, and, in fact has gotten much worse!
My truck idles very rough now, where it feels like it is going to die. It is sputtering much worse then before, and this is after I have spent around $400 and 2 weekends on fixing what was wrong! I am supposed to go on vacation next Friday, and wanted to make sure the truck was fine by then. Now I'm worried that it won't be.
My truck also just had it's 100K mile birthday, which is another reason why I wanted to get this done.
I am really frustrated, and do not want to have to keep changing one thing at a time, that may or may not be the problem. I don't trust Ford, especially after seeing the uncracked serpentine belt, but I am no mechanical genius. We have thought about the torque converter, but I believe Ford had ruled that out.
CAN ANYBODY HELP ME PLEASE?
Thank you so much!

Shutter fixed. I had replaced all 8 spark plugs and #5 ended up being the issue. Plugs and coils still under warranty, so I replaced both and that was it.
However, there is now a ticking noise that has steadily grown louder. My understanding is that the ticking and pinging is the injectors firing, but it was never this loud before.
Any suggestions? Clogged lifters maybe? If so, is there a way to check without going to a shop?
