E4OD Problem

I have a 94 f150 and reecently have had a problem with it dropping out of gear and slaming back in. usually around 45 to 50 mph. Talked with ford dealer and they said it was sounded like a internal problem! OUCH! Was hoping it was going to be something simple. Anyone have this problem? The indicator is not flashing for any codes stored?? Any help would be appreciated!

Change the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS.) It's the black plastic sensor on the driver's side of the trans where the shifter cable attaches. When it starts to fail it does exactly what your trans is doing.

I've worked on many of these that had this exact symptom, and each one was caused by a failing TRS. The TRS in that model year (and several each side of it) were known to have a short life. Also, until it completely fails it won't set any codes. Before the TRS fails completely the trans is dead from all the neutralling.
