need help determining what this could be
need help determining what this could be
ok i have a 04 ford f150 fx4 single cab.
there is 136 thousand miles on it now.
when moving i will coast on and off of the gas and it will make a bang sound when i hit the gas again.
it does it alot.. like mostly aroud 50 mph.
and it has very unusual clanking sounds.
like if im going and hit the gas a little it will hesitate and then after reving rpms for a good bit almost 3 thousand rpm and then it will be a loud clank sound and it will kick in.
then i will be going along at a regular speed thru town and i will hit the gas a little harder and it will shoot up to 5000 rpm after a small stall.
just wondering what would make this happen.

Dang, worst case scenarios for sure. LOL
I am going to go the less scary route and suggest that you check the fluid and your u-joints. Also, my truck makes some interesting clangs from time to time when I apply throttle to come off from coasting.
The noise doesn't concern me as much as the rpm flare.
This might be the converter, but I would start simple and work from there instead of heading straight for the worst case. make sure your fluid is completely full and that your u-joints are in good shape first.

yea.. i hope its not worse case lol.
im gonig to make a check list on everything and put it on the lift this weekend.
my dad owns an auto shop so i get parts for alot cheaper than i usually would.
i think he may buy it also.. im stil in highschool and its hard for me to get out and work with homework and all that other stuff.
but ill check and replace the transmission fluid first off and grease the joints.
if it doesnt get any better ill take a look at the tranny or the converter.
i have had rear end problems also.. its a whining sound around 50 mph but i cant hear it anymore cause i got duals lol.
