Help!!!

So my 2005 F-150 Supercrew is at the dealership for the second time in a month. The first visit was for a failed transmission. The forward clutch drum was broken/cracked. They installed a new trans cooler, transmission, and filter. A month later, my truck is leaking transmission fluid. I had to park my truck for a week as I was on vacation when this started. Upon return from my vacation, I took it into the dealership again. Now, they are saying that the front pump and tourque converter need to be replaced. They are also wanting to charge me another $ 100.00 deductable.

I am having a hard time believing that these are 2 seperate instances. I believe that they are inter-related...like the pump failure caused the first transmission to fail.

Any ideas from you guys?

Best regards!

The pump is part of the transmission, so if they replaced the transmission last time that part went with it. You need to make sure they replaced the torque converter last time. They definitely should have and if they didn't then they didn't follow procedure.

All of these parts should already have been replaced and I would at least argue the deductible.

Also, a Ford reman transmission isn't built by Ford and they have a decent track record of having to be replaced due to failure. Ford farms these out and they are like pretty much any other rebuilt unit. You just don't know what you are getting until you have it in the vehicle and it either works or doesn't. They like to use the cheapest facility they can find to build these for them. People think that getting it from Ford might make for a better product and if there is any truth to that it's minimal.

Yup, the pump is part of the tranny and converter should've been replaced when the tranny was changed out.

Do you know was the new tranny a Motorcraft reman unit? If so, they're blowing smoke up your rear about needing the $100 deductible. Even if it wasn't, I'd still dispute the second deductible since I'd bet your current trouble is related to either the first problem or a faulty reman unit.

From the Motorcraft warranty details...

Thanks for the reply!

I believe the tranny is a Motorcraft. There was motorcraft warranty info inside my truck when I piked it up. I tried to research what comes with a motorcraft transmission. It doesn't specifically state a new pump or tourque converter. The motorcraft site states that they test for converter stall...so I would surmise that the torque converter is included with the transmission. They also want one back with the core.

I am going to protest the $ 100.00 deductable.

Thanks!

If it's a Motorcraft transmission, then it does comes with a rebuilt torque converter as part of the tranny package. The pump is an internal part of the transmission and was gone through when the tranny was rebuilt.

Also, the warranty was changed as of April this year so be sure to print out a copy of that PDF I posted and add it to your paperwork.

BTW, when I looked up that warranty info this morning I see that Motorcraft has a $100 rebate on reman trannies bought between 6/1 and 8/31. Sounds like you can get in on that deal too.

Thanks All!

Picked up the truck last wednesday. The dealer didn't even try to charge for the repair. I must have jumped the Gun!

I asked the service writer when I dropped the truck off if this was going to be the same claim. He had indicated that it was unrelated. That is what set me off. But all ends well for now!

Regards
