Odd situation with Cruise control

when my cruise is on, and i attempt to hitt he brake and slow down it doesnt seem to work properly. I have to push the brake almost all the down, and before the cruise goes off the engine revs up to about 2000 rpms then the cruise goes off. any ideas??

I would check all the brake lights. One of my bulbs went out on a road trip and my cruise control got really screwy. Not exactly what your explaining but close. Mine didnt rev up, but when i hit the turn signal it would shut off the cruise. Mine did the same thing with the brakes though.

pressure switch on the master cylinder is bad!!!!!!!!!!

this is the source of the recall, switch goes bad and leaks- (the break fluid is flammable) and conducts through the fluid, disconnect the wiring harness from the switch right away and replce switch ASAP

The brake light switch is either failing, out of adjustment, or the wiring/connection is intermittent.

Quickest way to check if it's the adjustment is to see if the brake lights come on when you hit the brakes but the cruise does not disengage.

The 04 uses a two-part brake light switch. One part switches the power for the stop lamps, the other part switches the signal for the speed control and the PCM. If the second part of the switch fails, stop lamp operation will still be normal, but the speed control module and the PCM will not know the brake has been pressed. Therefore, the speed control won't disengage until you hi the redundant cutt-off and the engine will race since the computer didn't know to back off throttle control as the disengagement occurs.

Someone did a post-mortem on a failed switch on one of these forums, maybe I can find it...

Please do, that would be great. I have no idea about any of that or about ff301 said. Any idea on replacement costs for this?

I think it was over at FTE.

You could be back from the parts store with a $15 switch and have it replaced before I even remember where I put my reading glasses..

It's on the arm of the bake pdeal.

Stick your head under the dash and take a peek. You can push the pedal with your hand and you should be able to hear it click...

It's under the hood where you check and add the brake fluid..............

Have you bothered to buy a Chilton or Haynes manual for your truck yet? That would be an excellent $20 investment and will answer a LOT of questions for you.
