Question M5OD 4X4 into a 4x2?

I have been looking high an low for a 2WD M5OD(89 F150) but cant find any I was wondering if it would be possible to get a 4X4 M5OD take off the transfer case and put on my Tail housing to turn it into a 2WD transmission if not why not? tried doing a search on here but kept telling words have to be more then tree letters long arrrrggghhhh....

You can convert a 4x4 trans to 4x2. You need the extension housing and a new output shaft. The 4x2 output shaft is longer. To install the output shaft you must disassemble the trans.

like said above you can but its not worth it especially since the 4x4 trans are harder to find and go for more $$$ than the 2wd trans

have you checked this site www.carpart.com for a trans they will search all the local auto recyclers and you should be able to find one close

the output shaft, what you have to change is the last out 4x4, and first in 4x2.
