I appreciate your input, and I must be wrong about my model of tranny, which is great having a medium like this to figure that kinda stuff out.

I wanted to do one thing at a time, tranny, then gears, then motor.

but in the end with adding up the cost of it all, I should just find a L motor and a 4R100 out of a wrecked 4x4 and get a tune.

Do I have to stay within a certain year range of the 4R100? Will the Lightning ECM work with the regular tranny?

I believe the gears are different in the L, could anyone clarify?

If you have about $5000.00 to spend you could use a ZF tranny and a New Venture Gear t-case out of a Super Duty. Your body lift will allow the ZF to fit. You will need to shorten the rear driveshaft and lengthen the front one. As yours is a 2000 you have coil on plugs so you could easily swap a 2000 MY PCM and rig up the tranny harness to work. A PCM2 code will work. When you call the Bone yard for the PCM you will need this number: YL3F-12A650-VC. I purchased a spare for $75.00. I know it works because I used it. Of course a tune to accommodate the swap from the auto PCM to the stick. You already know about the pedals and hydraulic system so I won't boar you with that. Is that Vancouver BC or Washington?

PS. The cheaper route is an M5OD with a BW 4406 T-Case.

And you've been through how many M50Ds?

I'm in Vancouver BC, there aren't a whole lotta trucks around the city, I think the stats are like 100 cars for every truck.

I will start calling around for parts so I can see what cost is, Although for $5000 I would rather put it towards a L swap with a Built 4R100.

I was hoping I could go with the M5OD, but as I have been informed It's not the best tranny for a blown 5.4. I want to do this to improve reliability and try to do it only once.

Iwas taking a good look over the truck before I left to help weigh the serious consideration of putting another 5-7 G's in the old girl. there's a few other things I have to look at and put in order.

Like I know in the next year or 2 the doors are either going to have to be replaced or patched, which ticks me off because I just had it painted last summer and the body guy didn't repair the rust properly before painting.

Front and rear diffs are going to need bearing and seals at the very least, the rear should get a new LS clutch pack at the same time.

After the trucks sits for a week or two I get a little puff of blue smoke on start up for the first time after it sits, so I guess I should be doing heads to sometime, and who wants to do heads on a engine that has 250,000kms on it with out touching the bottom end?

both bumpers need to be replaced do to large dents.

oh and the drivers seat has a nice spring in it that's popped outta place and now likes to dig into my leg on long drives!

My sled is getting sold in the Fall and I wanted to put that $4500 towards the truck.

At least I'm doing the entire exhaust system in a couple of weeks, so that annoying manifold leak do to a broken bolt will finally be off the list after a year!

How many trannys have you gone through JMC?

Does the M5OD bolt up to my transfer case?

I haven't looked in the picture gallery to see what your truck looks like, but by the looks of your sig, it's gotta be pretty similar!

You must have a few more ponies than I do too, so maybe a stick would last longer in mine

did you go from a 4.6 with a stick to the 5.4 or put the stick in a truck that came with a 5.4?

Thanks for the link I'll check it out.

I started with a 4.6 and a stick. At my last count I am on my 5th transmission.
The M5OD should accept your T-case. I don't see Ford having two different bolt pattern's on the Case. When you look for a t-case they don't ask if the tranny is a stick or auto just if the case is a manual or electric shift. The tune I have on it now shows 335 hp and 413 torque at the rear wheels. That is with a Failed MAF. I bought the Procharger with a tune from a local tuner. The local guy just did the best he could using my stock MAF. Troyer hasn't tuned it yet. I like the ATI as it doesn't start to boost till about 2500 rpm. I have been extremely lucky with this tranny. It has been just over a year since install and almost a year since being supercharged.

That sure is a great site, there is only one boneyard in Vancouver that has ford truck parts and what they have is pretty picked over whenever I call or go and check what they have. I've been hounding them for seats out of a lariat, but they never have any.

I would be very happy with 300rwhp in my truck, I hope I'm around there.

I am happy with my pro-charger to, it's like it just the same truck when your cruising and has to get up and go when you want it.

I would sure like to have a stick though, how are clutches holding up? do you use OEM?

Blown,

I have been using Luk Clutches. OEM quality. I replace the pilot bearing every time. I use a bearing not a bushing. Try using Washington state as your location. There is for sure more selection. When I need parts I use the Midwest and look for yards in Michigan and Ohio. it is very easy to cross the border with parts. Just keep the receipt and declare it at the Canadian Customs. Worst case you pay tax.

subs1000w,

So far every time I have blown a tranny I could not afford the upgrade. I would need a tranny, t-case and driveshaft mods. About $5000.00 once all is said and done. I have been toying with the idea of using a T56 out of a Dodge SRT10 truck. It has strong internals, even stronger than the Viper's tranny. This guy is running the V10 internals in his tranny. http://www.hotrod.com/eventcoverage/...age/index.html
click on the Spectacle Solutions video. A few years ago I stayed up till 2:00 A.M. helping him put an engine in that car. So if I can find a way to attach a t-case to that tranny I will go that route instead.

Ford may have 5 different bell housing patterns, but they got it right with only having one transfer case pattern and spline count from the 60s to current.

Chevy is the exact opposite with only one bell pattern for easy tranny swaps, but three or four transfer case patterns with 5 different spline counts.

it can be done with enough time and money

me personally, i would just get a custom bell housing and run a Tremec 56 trans (T56)
