can't turn off overdrive

The pushbutton to turn off the overdrive seems to have quit working. I noticed it while hauling a car. tranny seems to work flawlessly in overdrive mode. also the door locks no longer auto lock.
i can hear a faint yet audible clicking underneath the truck at times. Not a rock in the tire. Wondering if there is a physical connection that is loose
any idea where the connections would be for these two things. they seem related to me. both having to do with tranny. been 8k miles since last tranny service.

The OD button does not connect to the transmission. It's wired to the PCM. Frequently the wires break where they enter the shifter handle inside the steering column. Sometimes they break inside the insulation and look good, but don't have electrical continuity.

Remove the screws from the underside of the steering column plastic cover. Either fix the wires or replace the shifter handle.

Thanks Mark and wildchild, my F150 S'crew is doing (some of) the same thing, I put in a new push button in the shifter end, no luck. I will look under the steering column now.

SgtMapalm and wildchild, what was the verdict? I just got my truck a month ago and it has the same problem. The o/d button just popped out and I'm wondering if mine is the button or the wire problem. Thanks for the heads up.
