My Truck Wont Go Into Reverse!
You might want to check your linkage from the gear selector. It might have gotten out of whack.
If not... off to the dealer or to the tranny shop for a rebuilt and/or a new tranny.

But make sure you have some cash to fix him up with $3,000 little project.

my 1998 f-150 doesnt want to go into reverse
Ya I have the same problem. Once I put my truck in reverse it usually just sits there. Sometimes it would go in and be perfectly be fine but sometimes it wouldnt, almost like it wasnt getting the message to go into reverse. All of my other gears are fine and the reverse is good when it actually goes in (no slipping or anything). It has been getting worse though, not sure why. Could this be a selenoid? Or the tranny range switch? I dont know what the deal is Im just hoping its not the tranny and just a minor problem
If you know anything about this please Help! thanks
Also how do i tighten my shift linkage?

It can't be a solenoid, and it can't be the range switch. Neither are used to make the reverse engagement. It is almost certainly a failing seal in the reverse clutch. Sometimes it seals, sometimes it doesn't. The trans has to come out and get torn down to change this seal.

Worked just fine I was at the ranch in some mud backed out of it then when I got back into the truck later on it wouldn't go into reverse.
