Transmission Computer Issues

I took my truck into my mechanic, and told him that sometimes the transmission shifts hard. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

After he looked at it, he said that he found some issues with the tranny after plugging it in. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it normal? and Is it costly to get fixed.

My truck is a 05' 5.4L with about 39,000 miles. Your help would be appreciated because I am about to haul a boat about 300 miles and want to make sure that I dont screw the tranny up.

Thanks

I bought a tuner so i could make mine shift harder. No, not had that problem, but you might see if the dealer will reflash the PCM.

Could a Transmission shop do this or would you recommend a dealership? I hate paying the dealers high costs. Thanks for the input.

Only a dealer would have a PCM flash.

Did your mechanic get any more specific, other than "found some issues"?

Not true.

If a Independent Repair Shop has the Factory IDS Scan tool then they can also do flashes.

He didnt really get into it, he said he was going to call the tranny shop that he recommends and never called him, so I didnt really get specifics. He found errors I think is the why we put it.

Could these errors possibly screw up a trans?

I suppose it depends on exactly what these "errors" are. Vague questions get vague answers, sorry to say. Not trying to give you a hard time, but it's like telling me your truck is making a funny noise and asking me what's wrong.

Yeah, that is true, I wish they were more specific but the mechanic does not like doing trans work. Does anyone know what a PCM flash will cost?

Thank you for that post paralyzer, I think that my truck does fall under this, but I am at 39,000 miles past the warranty. I think those are speeds that I seem to feel it. So I assume that I would have to pay for this to be completed. Is that correct to assume?

Doesn't the 05 have a 5 year 60k powertrain warranty? If so, get it to the DEALER, not an independent mechanic or tranny shop, to run a diagnosis.

I don't theink that went into effect until late 2006. We own a 2006 Mustang and it did not get that a few months later they upped it to the 5/60

The 5/60 warranty started in July, 2006. The 2005s don't have it.
