Ok I have looked through most of the post and dont see my problem so here it is. I have a 04 F150 FX4 5.4 liter. I first noticed the problem while slowing to a stop. It sounded like the transmission was trying to go into 1st gear and was having trouble. The sound is hard to explain but at the end of it, it sounded like two gears had finally meshed together. The next time I was going down the road at about 75mph and a high pitch whine started like there was metal on metal contact. The sound slowed as I came to a stop and then again it sounded like two gears were having trouble getting together. It happened again today without the high pitch whine but I was just driving along at about 20mph. I let off the gas and the gears seemed to go together again. I did have it in 4 HI today for about 90 feet. It sounded to me like the front transfer case is trying to engage and when I slow it goes in. But I do not feel anything in the steering. Anyone that has any ideas would be apprecitated. Been to the dealer 3 times and they can not duplicate.
