Take the plastic cover off of the steering column. Either fix the wires where they enter the shifter handle or replace the shifter for about $50.

Is that all it takes? Mine OD went out about 2003 on my 00 F150. Replaced the fuse, and it would just burn out again. Do the wires kink or something?

Sometimes when the wires break they short out and blow the fuse.

Wish that I had of known about this site a few years ago. What really bothered me was that I could not use the auto on/off lights, as it shares a fuse with the OD. OD was not that big of an issue.

I have the same problem with a 2001 F150. Don't I have to take off the ignition switch to get the cover off?? If so, how do you get it out of the way? I have the bottom section of the steering column cover off but can't get the top out of the way.
