shift pressure affects mpgs?

Somewhere along time ago, I read that in order to get the "smooooth" shift that comes w/ my Expy, the shift pressure is very light, which translates to wasting fuel between shifts. Using the Xcal to increase shift pressure supposedly wastes less fuel between shifts as they occur quicker and there is less, uhm, drag between shifting gears.

Can someone check me on this and maybe expound a little? I'd like to fix that if I can with the Xcal on my Ex.

Thanks.

The soft shifts take longer. The firmer or quicker the shift, less fuel is pent making the shift and the energy is used to move you forward. The clutches in the tranny last longer as well, due to less heat build up.

While that's true, I'll bet the difference is so slight that you could never measure it.

That is probably true and it certainly won't save enough fuel to pay for the tuner, but I do think it will save wear on the clutches and allow the tranny to last longer. Plus, it just feels soooo goood!

i did set the pressure up

by 10%, but I didn't notice anything *special*. Maybe the Ex is just too heavy to make it able to 'snap' abit when shifting. I had read about the wear and tear too. Also remember reading that too much pressure is a bad thing. But how much is too much?

BTW - this is not why I got the tuner. The general driveability of the stock ECM is ptooey. Troyer does a great job making these things live up to their potential.

Feels like I'm driving a 6,000 sports car

Elvato,

you have a very similar set up to me: FAL efans, Summit UD pulleys, Troyer tune on the Xcal. No muffler though. Added AirTabs to the rear top and side windows to (theoretically) lower drag coefficient.

Just like to get the shifting more manly

The muffler is more for sound, and maybe 1-2 HP. If anything, if we were to race, your Airtabs would equal my muffler, so we should tie.

I wish I could use RP but they don't stock 5W-20 around here. That's why I use Mobil 1 full synthetic.

do a search on ebay for royal purple 5w20. they sell it for 5.99/qt. w/ delivery charges it comes to about 7 per qt, which is what it costs me here in PepBoys.

Not sure if it really helps, but I like the idea of the blended Moly. I use moly paste on my air gun trigger parts but only after it has been shot a while first becuase the stuff is so slick it will not allow the metal parts to seat together. Same applies to the engine parts. Can't be used for new engines!

So I FEEL like it helps, and that after all, is all that matters
