I have 97 F-150 automatic. It will go into revers gear with no problem and drive. But others won't go into gear unless I press the gas hard for a few seconds.Any help would be appreciated. I removed the pan and change the filter today.But no luck. Thanks in advance.

Rebuild time.

The internals are worn out. Probably either worn out frictions or a blown seal.

a rebuild's cots would vary upon who you go to, whether or not you upgrade to heavy duty internals, etc. a backyard mechanic would charge less, however, you would probably need another rebuild as soon as the warranty goes out. i would personally go to someone reputable and upgrade to heavier parts over skimping out on this one.
