does the 98 f150 2wd have a drain plug on the tork converterter? my tranny is bucking and doing a shutter when i come to a stop. it trys to die out then acts like it doesnt want to shift. what should I do? should I flush it and change fluid? or do I have to replace trans? let me know if anyone can help. it doesnt sli[ it just shiftsall ****ed up in drive. I f i shift manually it fine until it hits drive then it doesnt know what gear it wants to be in. help please!

 

Yes, it has a drain plug. I'd drop the pan, change the filter, and drain the converter - and refill with fresh fluid. It will take somewhere around 13 or 14 quarts.

 

Might also be a bad DTR sensor (aka MLPS).

Ford's transmissions can act pretty goofy when the computer can't tell the proper position of the shift lever.

where is the DTR sensor at? because the tranny doesnt slip it just wont stay in the right gear when its in drive. So ill try the fluid and filter change then. and maybe the DTR sensor if I can get it as well.

 

It's on the driver's side of the trans where the shifter cable attaches. There are two bolts that hold it to the trans, and a wiring harness.

 

what part do I ask for when I go to the shop to get a new one? They didnt know what I was talking about at the autoparts store when I asked them. Thanks alot

 

Probably called a Neutral Safety Switch by the parts stores.

They may call it a TRS, DTRS, MLPS or nuetral safety switch.

The torque converter refills from the trans. You add fluid through the dipstick tube. The trans pump will fill the torque converter.
