Torque converter drain plug on 2002 4R70W???

I have a 2002 trans in my 2000 model Lariat. The old tranny had a drain plug on the converter . I was wondering if anybody knows if the 2002 tranny has the same??? It is fluid and filter change time. Thanks to everybody in advance

You MAY have the half of 02's that came with one because I think mid year it stopped. There's a round plug under it, remove and have someone turn the engine over slowly. 18mm socket on a breaker bar works good on the crank pulley bolt.

Odds are against it, but it is worth taking a look.

Yes, should be there, kind of a plastic round cover directly in line with where the TC should be. If you do have one of the drain plugs, great, just remember not to x-thread it or tighten too much, just enough to hold it in there.

So i pull the plug out and crank the motor until the bolt lines up with the hole?

Yup. If you're working on the ground, pull the rubber plug and put a mirror under it at an angle like this:

Then you can see when the drain plug lines up (or if there even is one) from up front as you turn the motor by the crank pulley bolt.

T-convertor drain plug

Nope-think the plugs were gone after 2000- if not, VERY shortly thereafter.

Ford installed thier last drain plug in August, 2001. So the earliest 2002s have a drain plug, anything after that does not.

Is there any good reason that Ford stopped putting those drains in their transmissions, other than economy??? Sure did make transmission service alot easier...

Part # for PLUG is : 391346S should anyone want to order it online...

I had a hard time finding it. I was told they rarely sell 'em... They never get replaced, contrary to what the FSM says..

I went to: discountfordparts.com

Cheers!
