Mine turned out to be a bad shift motor too. Look at that before wasting $130 on a GEM module that you don't need (like I did). The shift motor was cheaper (about $90) and a lot easier to replace.

Same exact problem for me, took the shift motor off tonight and manually put it in 2 hi, now looking at shift motors. Found one made by CARDONE INDUSTRIES for $65 at Oreillys w/ lifetime warranty. Are these good motors? What has everybody used?

I think that's what I got. Bolted up fine and has been working without an issue for a year now.

Well, 8 months later I engaged 4 low and it won't disengage. I replaced the t-case motor in April so I don't think this is the problem. I've read that the brakes have something to do with the 4x4 system. Does anyone know of this? I replaced rear brake shoes in January and the 4x4 messed up in April. When I mash the brakes hard at like 5mph the rears lock up. Can anybody diagnose this? I'm lost!

when you shift back to 4hi do you put the truck in neutral and hold the brake pedal down and wait for it to shift ?.

If the drive train is bound it cannot shift till you free up the bind. Jack the front off the ground and if the system is functioning properly it will relieve the bind and allow the shift. At the very least jack up the passenger side front wheel.
