Bellhousing Question?

I have a 1997 F150 with the 4.6 and a 5 speed and is 4 wheel drive. I has talked to a few transmission shops and they say that the bellhousing of a 4.6 and the 302 might be the same but I thought that in 1997 they changed... I do have a 5 speed from a 94 F150 with the 302. The first time i had transmission problems I took the top cover off and had to get a new shifter fork inside the transmission and first the store gave me one for a pre-97 and it didnt match and later had to order a different one to match. So I just wondering if bellhousing is the same...

The bellhousing is definitely not the same between the modular and the pushrod engines. No question about this except for some very early 4.6 engines used in cars in around 1991. A bellhousing for a 302 will not bolt up to the 4.6 in your truck.

I don't see why the shifter fork would not work. I suspect that they gave you an M5OD-R1 part. Two different transmissions. The R1 is the Ranger tranny. The V6 tranny has the 5L bolt pattern.
