overdrive switch not working

overdrive switch not working

1995 F-150 XLT 4x4 351w E40D...OD switch on shifter does nothing. What might it be? What to check?

Mine did that on my 00 f150. It was a fuse. Even though I would change it, it kept blowing. Check your owners manuel to see which one it is. I believe its a ten.

The wire in the steering colum was worn thru, thats what blows the fuse. Took mine apart and taped it up, no more problems.

well, it appears they routed the wires in the column in a bad/pinch spot on at least some of thes 92-96 models. I never found a fuse that goes to OD, but upon taking off the colum covers I found the problem. The wires were pinched in 2. I removed the shifter and harness, soldered the 3 wires back together, reinstalled everything...works great.

Thanks for replies, hope this might help someone later down the road with a dead OD switch.

Great for you, sucked being me. I drove my 00 for years without being able to take the truck out of overdrive...plus since my fuse was always blowing, the auto light never worked. Should have found this site way, way earlier.
