1985 3spd aftermarket floor shifter problems
1985 3spd aftermarket floor shifter problems
I bought a 1985 F-150 4.9 L6 with a converted 3spd on the tree to the floor, and I noticed you can't really tell what gear you are in because it is soo loose, and on top of that it is hard to find the gears because the throws are really far. Any ideas how to adjust one of these?
The springs and everything are probably worn out in the shifter.

I did a 3 on tree to on floor conversion on an 86 like yours. I know I only paid about $50 for the shifter kit from autozone. I bought the Mr Gasket version and it worked fine for several years. The 3speed on the floor is ok with the 6. Its a whole lot of fun to take it to an oil change place and watch the kids try to drive it. I had a guy put it in reverse 3 times. Each time I told him it was a 3 speed. Finally another guy came over and put it in first for him. Should have had a hidden camera.

Back in the mid 80's I had a Maverick with a 3 on the tree. I had a kid in a car wash try to put it in "drive" with the engine running..............grind me a pound while you are at it, kid.......
