i have a 2004 4x4 with 60k miles on it and it started doing the same thing to me today. I turned the overdrive off and it quit slipping, but i dont want to have to rely on that. Have you found out or fixed the problem yet?

no i do not know what the problem is. hoping to get some ideas from someone on the board. i checked with a ford dealer and they will not say much except to get it to the dealership. new trans 2100+tax and $1000 to install it.i am going to check with a local trans shop and see what say.

If you have a reputable shop to take it to.It should only be about $1500 for the hole job!

fluid level good. i bought the truck 1 year ago and changed fluid and filter. put 8000 miles on the truck since then. haved used it to tow 5 or 6 times.it has the 5.4 motor and tow package. could there be something electrical be the problem? dealer did check vin for me and stated truck has either e40d or 4r100 transmission. i counted bolts on trans pan as suggested in trans forum. has 20 bolts.also dealer gave me history of truck. on 9-20-2003 states "locked in park" will not shift out of park. tech states "verified concern found bps leaking brake fluid replace and melting connector replace switch, connector and terminals replace fuse and check operation ok" .any ideas?sorry for the long post.

You have the 4R100 TRANS. I would look at the wiring first since it's cheaper than a trans. Make sure it isn't messed up anywhere. Mine slipped from the line and you have pretty close to the same trans I have. Fixed mine w/transgo shift kit - under $100 @ troyer w/f150 online discount. I also added Amsoil. Trans is great now w/over 230,000 miles on it..

Yea , but he has a different trans - he has the 100 - that adds for a 70.

If it turns out that you need a trans - I found quite few used ones when I thought I needed one on the car-part.com site.
You type in your zip and they locate one for yuh close by.
