1991 Tranny Problem
1991 Tranny Problem
I just completed a swap from a 5.0 to a 5.8 which did not include a transmission.
Upon startup, everything started fine and ran well. I drove down the street and noticed that the trans wasn't shifting out of first. I turned around and headed home and noticed a slip also. Pulled into the drive, hit reverse and had to rev up to get it to move. Same thing on the return shift to drive. I didn't change computers, the original is still in there. Do I just have bad luck and the tranny is now shot, having nothing to do with the engine change? Also, how do I tell if I have a AOD or an AODE? I'm thinking AODE since I have the O/D button on the shifter.
Thanks,
Ken

Prblem Solved
After doing a little research, I found out that the Ford transmission likes to 'gum up' a little in the winter, especially when sitting around a lot. I went back out and just shifted back and forth with about 1500 rpm's and after several shifts, the slipping began to fade. After a few more shifts, it was back to nojmal! I guess the valve body gummed up a little. Anyway, roblem solved.
