How many miles on the truck? How long have you had it? Have you recently noticed it shifting harder? The clutch master cylinder may be low on brake fluid. I would check the fluid level of the clutch master cylinder. There is a rubber cup under the cap, remove this before checking or adding fluid. Unless something has gone awry with the clutch disc or pressure plate, ie a spring out of place on the clutch disc or release arms busted on the pressure plate, replacing those won't help the shifting. Does it shift into reverse from a dead stop without grinding? Bottom line, check the fluid level in your clutch master cylinder first. And don't forget about removing that rubber cup.

The answers are; nothing and no. A Hurst shifter will not improve the smoothness of the shifting. The shift forks could be wearing out and allow more play in the system making the shift feel less smooth that it used to. Is it worth pulling the Shift Control Housing off to check out the play? IMHO, no.

Some people claim that changing the fluid and replacing it with GM Synchromesh makes a difference. I personally use full synthetic ATF.
