Converter size question?

I have a 2002 F-150 Supercrew with a 4.6L and a 4R70W Tranny. I am installing a 2003 5.4 Lightning motor and using the same trans. I had to order a different flywheel for the 5.4 since the one from the 4.6 didn't fit. As we were trying to mate the motor to the trans, we noticed that the 4 bolt converter pattern on the trans was different from the 4 bolt pattern on the flywheel. Are there different converter sizes for different applications of the 4R70W trans? Any help would be appreciated.

Ok here's the deal you are about to make a huge error.
You need a flexplate from a 5.4 truck with a 4r70w transmission. No if's ands or butts. The 4r100 in the lightning has different spacing that flexplate cannot work. Also all 4r100's had 6 bolt converters. Which is why you noticed the problem. The converters are all 12 inch diameter units.

Right, I ordered the flexplate that goes to the 5.4 with the eight flexplate bolts, and it had the 4 converter bolt holes. The lightings with the 4R100 had six converter bolts, hence, I had to purchase the new flexplate. The problem is that now that I have the flexplate from the 5.4 w/ 4R70w trans, the 4 bolt holes do not line up with my converter? Not sure why, it seems like if my converter was one inch smaller, then it would line right up. Do the trucks have a different size converter on the 4R70's as compared to the cars?

Yes cars have 11&1/4 converters. I'f you're putting a lightning engine on a 4r70w you need a better converter than stock anyway. The 5.4 4r75 converter is the best of the breed but still has a cheap red friction.

How are you going to make this work? The stock PCM in that truck isn't going to run a Lightning engine, and an Lightning PCM isn't going to run a 4R70W.

Plus, if you did get it to work I don't think the 4r70W is going to live very long behind a Lightning engine.

I'm sure any good tuner can make the engine run just fine.

Screwed2002 I tried to send you a message but could not. I buy the small car converters if you want to sell it.

I'd say you have email turned off and private messages don't work until 100 posts I think. I'd delete the email and phone number from that asap or you'll get added to every spam list and call list around.
