Torque Converter

I have a supercharged 2003 F150. Tow a horse trailer about once a month at 6,000lbs. Would like quicker acceleration and still tow comfortably. So how much stall can I run?

I have a 2800 in mine and it does well for everything except for getting anywhere near mud. It works fine for towing.

With your application you will need enough converter clutch area to handle lockup at WOT and that can be tricky to find. I am assuming that you have a 4R70 series transmission and if so, there are a couple of options out there that are good converters and I am very much biased on what I would suggest so I will leave that up to the others. Just be very careful and do a lot of homework before you decide which route to go and be aware that the most popular is not always the best. A paper clutch used in this particular setup could really come back to haunt you. There are solutions and stuff out there that will do what you need, but you may have to hunt to find them or buy one very popular product and send it to a different company to get the proper stuff put into it.

I would suggest for towing a horse trailer a limit of about 2500 stall because getting it moving with much more on an inclide (especially when it is slick) could be a problem. The converter clutch will be the key to it all.

Yes I have the 4R70W. Not sure what stalls is on stock (assume about 1800). Was thinking only in the 2400 for daily driver/tow application. Truck is not drag raced, well there is the occasional launch from the red light, but I usually do not try to smoke the tires. Brand names would be appreciated.

Try contacting Dirtyd0g. He built my converter, and I am super happy with it.
