RPM drop at shift

I have an 02 screw with 5.4, auto tranny, and 3.55 gears. It's a 4x4 so I really don't want to change gears. Have a programmer to increase shift firmness and shift points. The question is about rpm drop at shift. Not quite at wot, but when I accelerate hard the engine rpm drops around 1500. I would like to keep rpms a little higher to maximize torque. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The only way to do that is put in a tranny with more speeds and therefore a smaller ratio difference between gears.........

so, in a nut shell, you want to change your final gear ratio WITH OUT changing your gears??? sounds odd to me? maybe go to a tranny shop and see if they can adjust your shifts for you? maybe one of these super smart cats on this site will have a better idea than mine...

Change the rear gears all you want - if it drops from (example) 5000 to 3500 rpm when it shifts now, it will still do the SAME thing afterwards.

glc is right. Changing the rear gears will only change what vehicle speed the trans shifts at, the RPM drop after a shift will be the same. The RPM drop is defined by the ratios in the transmission, not the rear end ratio.

To change the ratios in the trans you'll need to have custom gears made. Plan to spend a few hundred thousand G's to get that done. Nobody (to the best of my knowledge) makes any gears with different ratios for any of these transmissions.
