OD Clunk feeling from Tranny Area

Background - 02 Screw 4x4 with 86,500 miles. Purchased 1 year ago, with 56thousand on the odometer. Towed a boat three times (always with OD turned off) and my bike a few times (on a very small trailer).

About two weeks ago, I noticed when I am in Over drive and give the throttle approximately 5-55% push, there is a clunk coming from the Transmission U-Joint area. This just recently started out of nowhere. When I turn Overdrive off, the transmission work perfectly. It acts as though when I give it Gas, but not enough to make the tranny drop into 3rd, there is a torque converter issue. The power is still there after the thump, and the RPMs do not appear to increase before the clunk. I checked both u-joints and they appear sound and functioning properly. What could be the cause of this type of clunk? Torque Converter? One-way clutch slip? Transmission control module? MAF Sensor? I have non Codes thrown. NO SES light. Any help is greatly appreciated.

try greasing the slip yoke... get the ford teflon grease... it will last a long time, but you can put regular grease in it, just to see if the problem goes away... the regular grease will wear out in about 4 days, as it cannot stand up to the heat... i had clunking coming from mine, around the same mileage as you, and this was the problem...

05 F150 FX4 78K miles.

Mine did it new, maybe 2,000 miles.
Dealership took a peek and lubed it, went away until.

Now (78K miles), Dealership took a look, lubed it and said there were some metal shavings but not that bad. They said I'd probably need a new Drive Shaft in a couple years. They said there wouldn't be a catastrophic failure but just more consistent clunking down the road.

I'm kinda pissed, this should not have happened at 2K miles or
78k miles. I would think that major part should last much
longer than that.

I just drained/refilled my transmission and transfer case fluid and it went away. There was no plug so I drilled a hole in the pan and installed one and changed the filter while I had the pan down. Now I never have to remove the pan again! It doesnt drain all the fluid but it shifts like a dream now! Im not going to flush because it has just over 200K.
