transgo shift kit
transgo shift kit
i see a few of you on here running them, i was just wondering if it was worth the money for the gain that you got and what were the actual benifits of it? its not really all that expensive from what i can see and im sure i can install it, it may even be a good excuse to get under there and get the tranny fluid changed. so whatdya think?

Oh yea, awesome kit !! Firms up the shifts and puts the power to the ground - where it should be .
Also - NO slipping from the line!!! I had a slippage problem from the light. - That's eliminated ..
Couldn't brake torque before - the trans was slipping that bad - TroyerPerf sells the E4OD kit that came with hardware .. .
It's still hitting the gears great !!
Built54 and I have the E4OD's in our trucks.
Neal runs the kit , so does Klitch, look them up, they have the 4r70w's in there rides , with the kit installed and had the same great results .
I took pictures of the process - Complete tear down to the Separator Plate if you need help with it..
I've heard a few in this "trans" forum say this would ruin your transmission.
My trans has 228,000 miles on it and I installed the kit 8 months ago..
So what's that tell yuh..??
Get it

The "E" on the bottom line is your trans code - E = E4OD in the 98 models. However, the 99 models with the "E" code = The First 4R100 Unit..
"U" = 4R70w

I dont know about the Fords, but on chevys, some drilling is required, and you have to swap some springs and some small steel ***** that pertain to the holding pressure of each gear. Some kits even supply you with the drill bit.

I wasnt going to touch my tranny, I had a performance shop put it in, the only thing I didnt do to my truck. They charged 100 to do it including oil. I hear lots of people telling me that transgo kit will screw up my tranny, but ive had it in for 40k miles and its good as the day it came off the lot.
It's worth every bit of $100 having someone else do it ....
First go around - it was a little to mellow hitting 2nd gear - there was a little roll to it..
The Accumulator body flow/tune plate provided in the kit adjusts piston/plunger pressure thru three holes - 1rst,2nd and third gear pressure/volume.
They give you a sheet with the most common hole sizes used for your trans model.
Like I said - those didn't work for me to mellow . Broke it all down again to adjust.
Well , I didn't want to have to do that a third time so I drilled them out 2 sizes - over sized from whats recommend..
I think Kevin will remember when I did this - 1rst gear would rev out 2nd would slam and I was getting all kinds of wheel hop
Back to the drawing board - I had to fab my own plate to reduce the holes one size smaller..
You know how much of a b^tch it was making this plate!! The holes have be perfect and the holes aren't sized for general population drill numbers - I didn't have a American size or metric that would fit those fricken holes perfectly - I had to use a reamer, rat tail file or whatever to get it tuh happen..
It worked out great after that tho..

Im running the transgo in my truck. i put the kit in there to firm up the shifts and shorten the lag time between shifts.
im runnin a 4.6 engine, 4r70 tranny with over 100,000 miles on the tranny when i installed the kit. from the looks of it, no one had ever dropped the tranny pan before, cause that little rubber stopper was in the pan.
i pulled a 10,000 lb trailer cross country with this setup, and the tranny is doin just fine, and i love to get on the gas and bark 2nd!!!!!
the install i done myself, using the kids little tikes picnic table as my workbench under the carport.
the only thing i can say, is if you do it yourself, dont forget to put back all the bolts in the valve body, cause i had to pull it all apart once i got the pan back on, couldnt figure on what that extra bolt was lying on the ground
this seems like a pretty good tranny kit, and relatively inexpensive. i love mine

You have a wimpy 4R70w - those are easy - Klitch did his while his arm was in a sling
I 'm Serious !! PM him.. - He's working on getting that lightning motor in..
He had to pull the pan again tho - like wonderboy. Klitch forgot to hook that linkage arm up
